PRO: You might be able to stay on at your old job working there part time. Lots of companies would permit older employees to reduce their hours rather than take full retirement.
CON: You won’t earn that much, and it will be the place you have worked for years, and you might be sick of it by now.
•Ever thought of being a consultant?
PRO: By now you are an expert in your field. Use this to your advantage. You can offer short-term consulting or freelance services to companies that prefer to contract temp employees for some projects. In this case you will very likely have to get a business license, keep records, and file taxes as a business on the income you earn.
CON: You are retiring, do you really want the full-time hassle. This can be a pain.
•Look into using government or some community programs.
PRO: Federal and state governments have set up a variety of programs to provide job training and employment services to seniors, and so have many local communities.
CON: Again, pay is weak, and in some cases it is mostly volunteer work.
My tip for job retirement: earn real money, do it part time, or full-time, and do it from the comfort of your home. Become an online affiliate. You do not need to invest anything, except your time, which you have plenty of, an Internet connection, and the electricity you use on your computer. It is easy to do, anyone can do it, and you will get to tell the world about the things you love.
Yes, it will take some honest effort, but in the long run, you could be making more money in your retirement than you have ever earned before. You don’t even need to have a product or a website. You do not have to go door to door. All you have to do is write on topics you love and submit them to directories.
